Medr Jurisdiction — Methodology Note
Data source: OfS Access & Participation data dashboard · Aggregated last 2 academic years · Full-time undergraduate population · Statistical significance assessed using 95% confidence intervals on gap estimates (OfS standard methodology). A gap is flagged as significant where the full CI lies above zero.
Entrant Profile
Share of full-time UG entrants by characteristic · vs sector average
Entrant share = proportion of UK-domiciled, full-time, first-year undergraduate entrants from each characteristic group. Sector average computed across all OfS-registered providers in the A&P dataset.
Access Gap — Participation Background
POLAR4 Q5 (highest participation areas) vs Q1 (lowest participation areas) · access rate
A positive gap means students from the highest-participation areas are entering at a higher rate than those from the lowest. A statistically significant gap here is a primary OfS concern and a common APP target area.
Continuation Gaps
Who continues into second year · by characteristic
Continuation = proportion of first-year entrants who continue into their second year. A statistically significant gap means students from a disadvantaged group are dropping out at a materially higher rate.
Degree Attainment Gaps
Proportion achieving good honours (1st or 2:1) · by characteristic
Attainment = proportion of qualifiers awarded a first or upper second class degree. Gaps are measured between the comparison groups shown. The White–Black gap is the most scrutinised by the OfS and media.
Progression Gaps
Graduate destinations · positive outcome rate by characteristic
Progression = proportion of graduates in positive destinations (employment or further study) 15 months after graduation. Source: Graduate Outcomes survey · OfS A&P data.
Statistically Significant Gaps
Gaps where the 95% confidence interval lies entirely above zero — the OfS significance threshold
| Lifecycle stage | Characteristic | Gap | 95% CI | Trend | Status |
|---|
Only statistically significant gaps are listed. A gap is significant where both bounds of the 95% CI lie above zero, consistent with OfS standard methodology. Trend: change in gap size from the previous year (positive = widening = adverse).
